João Caetano first joined Hungry Man in 2011 and has since built up an impressive reel directing for clients such as Kraft, Oi, Sport TV, and Suzuki. With his audacious style and passion for every job, João has attracted attention from agencies all around the globe. He believes that great ideas can change the world. And that is what he aims to use his talent for.
Born in Pernambuco in 1978, João moved to Rio de Janeiro as a child with a dream to become a filmmaker. Then at the age of 19, an enthusiastic cinephile, he started his early career. JC, as he is called, worked as an Assistant Director for some of the biggest film production companies in the country, with names such as Vicente Amorim, Paulo Vainer and Claudio Torres among others. At the age of 21, he immersed himself in filmmaking, working as an AD for Julio Bressane in “Dias de Nietzche em Turim”. Continuing to work with him on his next film “Filme de Amor”, in 2003.
João spent the next three years working on both advertising and personal projects until 2006 when, while working for MIXER, he launched his award winning short, “Balada Das Duas Mocinhas De Botafogo.” Inspired by a homonym poem from Vinicius de Moraes, the short was highly acclaimed, beating out 540 other shorts to be the best film in the AXN FILM FESTIVAL. The short was screened to an audience of over 11 million people in all of Latin America. After his short, JC dedicated himself to directing commercials, working with great agencies and important clients such as Oi, TIM, Vivo, Bradesco, Renault, Sul America and VW, which earned a Lion in Cannes, France.
João is one of the most in-demand Directors working in Brazil and South America – and is eager to embrace opportunities in Europe and the US. While juggling his projects, he is also currently working on a documentary about the life of Rodrigo Minotauro, MMA Legend, and developing a feature film project.
