RICHARD Bullock
Born in Perth, Western Australia, Richard failed at growing up, opting for a commerce degree before discovering his passion in advertising school.
His global journey took him from Sydney to Johannesburg, London, and across the Atlantic, where he became a student at the renowned Cliff Freeman & Partners in New York. After a successful stint there, he returned to Europe, rapidly rising to become ECD and managing partner at 180 Amsterdam.
Transitioning to film direction at 180, Richard showcased his skills with projects like “The Stars of St.Kitts & Nevis” for adidas and the acclaimed “DREAM BIG” for the 2008 Euro Football Cup. Notable web series followed, including “Futbol meets Football” for 180 LA, launching David Beckham in America.
Richard boasts an extensive portfolio directing commercials globally for brands like asics, adidas, Uber, Airbnb, Omega, Turkish Airlines, Microsoft, MasterCard, Google, Ikea, Gatorade, featuring A-list talents such as Daniel Craig, George Clooney, Al Gore, David Beckham, Lionel Messi, and Cindy Crawford.
Richard directs everything from scripted commercials to feature length branded content films, incorporating unique set design and animation for original storytelling.
In 2021, he directed the culturally relevant VRBO commercial “Your Home’s Not Ready” for Fortnight Collective, exploring the pandemic’s impact on homes. His D&AD Award-winning scripted short film, “Black Ice,” tells the true story of Skeleton athlete Akwasi Frimpong for the brand ON.
Richard’s interest lies in bridging brands and NGOs, directing projects like “Generation Rewear” for the British Fashion Council and Vanish UK, TV documentaries on sight-saving surgery, and the feature-length documentary “RUN” for the Swiss brand On, documenting the Athlete Refugee Team’s journey to Tokyo.
In 2023, he directed “Right to Race,” a World Refugee Day release recounting Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu’s journey from stateless refugee to elite athlete, exploring themes of identity, representation, and statelessness. Richard is also actively involved with Open Heart International, participating in filmmaking missions to Rwanda, Tanzania, and Papua New Guinea.
In 2024, Richard wrote, conceptualised and directed ‘There’s Something in the Water’ for Super Rugby Pacific.
